Inaugural Session of Iran-Uganda Joint Agricultural Working Group Held in Tehran

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first meeting of the Iran-Uganda Joint Agricultural Working Group took place on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 16–17, 2025, with the objective of reviewing executive strategies for bilateral Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).

The meeting was attended by a delegation of officials from Uganda’s Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries (MAAIF), led by the Ministry's Commissioner for Agricultural Development, and concluded with the signing of a joint cooperation document.

During the sessions, Iran’s operational capacities in processing industries, agricultural machinery manufacturing, and modern irrigation systems were reviewed. Both parties emphasized the necessity of increasing annual trade volume, which currently remains below expectations.

According to the signed agreement, the two sides will cooperate in areas such as extraterritorial cultivation, the transfer of technical knowledge for climate-resilient crop production, and the facilitation of trade in livestock, meat, tea, and coffee. Additionally, the modernization of Uganda’s agricultural sector through the use of Iranian small-scale equipment and value chain management was among the key focal points agreed upon during this two-day summit.
